SATS is the technique Neville Goddard taught more consistently than any other. Success stories built around it are everywhere because it works when it is done correctly.
Most people are doing it wrong because the instructions they have been given are incomplete.
Here is what you actually need to know.
What SATS Is
SATS stands for State Akin to Sleep. It is the drowsy, relaxed state that exists in the moments just before you fall asleep. The window where the conscious, critical, doubting mind goes quiet and you are directly receptive to the impressions you are holding.
Neville taught that this state is a door. What you carry through that door, the felt reality you hold in those last moments before unconsciousness, is what gets impressed on your deeper creative faculties. And those faculties begin building toward its physical expression.
This is why Neville said whatever you have in consciousness as you go to sleep is the measure of your expression in the waking two thirds of your life.
What to Do
Lie flat on your back. Arms at your sides or comfortable. You want the body fully relaxed.
Let yourself get drowsy. Do not fight sleep and do not force wakefulness. Drift toward the edge.
In that drowsy state, run your imaginal scene. Not a movie. A moment. A single scene from inside the desired reality. Short. Specific. Sensory. You are inside the experience, not watching it. First person. Present tense. Already real.
If you fall asleep during the scene, that is fine. That is actually ideal. You have carried the scene through the door. If you fall asleep before even starting the scene, you went too far too fast. Try again when you are less tired, earlier in the drowsy window. You can also try SATS while sitting upright in a chair during waking hours of the day.
Find what works for you and explore the depth of your own being.
The Most Common Mistakes
Trying too hard. SATS requires relaxation, not effort. The harder you concentrate, the more you push yourself out of the state. Relax. Float in the drowsy. Let the scene arise naturally.
Watching instead of being. You must be inside the scene, not observing it. If you can see yourself in the image, you are watching. Step inside. Feel it from the first person.
Usings SATS to get something instead of experiencing what is true reality now. Remember imagination is the one true reality. Use SATS to experience your true desired reality as a fact now, not to get it later. Now is the most creative moment.
The Scene to Use
Choose one moment that implies your wish is already fulfilled. Not the process of getting there. The moment after. The conversation you would have. The thing you would see. The feeling of someone who has simply arrived at the desired reality.
Try it tonight. You already know how to fall asleep. Add one thing. A single felt scene before you cross over.
